This event now in it's third year has become very popular with entries from foreign participants.
The winner for the past two years is keen to win for a third time when he will keep the original Sultan Azlan Shah Trophy. For this his Mitsubishi pick-up will be fitted with a factory EVO engine this year. Obviously many teams are out to stop him winning again.

For the third successive year the Larut Hill International 4x4 Challenge will be held on 28-29th November 2009 in the Malaysian State of Perak.

The format of this event is that on the first day there are a number of Special Stages on which competitors are awarded points based on placings.

Day two sees the top twenty points finishers compete in the Hill Climb for the Sultan Azlan Shah Challenge Trophy and the associated prize money.

The Challenge is Larut Hill, a former Colonial hill station with a narrow winding road 10.2 kms in length and rising to 1056 metres above sea level.

The skill of the driver and danger involved is in negotiating 93 steep hairpin bends to reach the top of the hill.

Eligible vehicles must comply with Malaysian Laws and road legal use with Registration Documents, valid Road Tax and Insurance.

Legally registered Thai vehicles would have no problem meeting these conditions.

The previous two runnings of this event indicate that cross country rally type vehicles are the most suitable for the competition.

It should be noted the hill road is not open to the general public and the State Government gives special permission for this event only for competition vehicles and designated officials. Spectators can access the hill either by walking or by official Land Rovers specially modified for the hill.

The event organizers would welcome Thai participation. Two vehicles will be entered by Off Road Magazine which will also be one of the official magazines for the event.

Prize money is generous with the First placing receiving approximately Baht 90,000. This comprises Baht 30.000 cash and two watches to the value of Baht 60,000.
